The gift of “stillness”

Matthew 11:28- Come to me all who are weary and heavily burdened, and I will give you rest and I will refresh your soul. Is this you today? Are you weary? Are you struggling to put on that smile and make it through the day? Are you easily frustrated and edgy? You are not alone. Jesus himself got weary after preaching to the crowds and healing many. He had to take time away to rest.(Luke 5:16)

It’s ok to be tired. It’s ok not to be one hundred percent. Have patience with yourself. Slip away into a quiet place with Jesus and let Him fill your empty cup and pour His refreshing oil over you. He longs to be with you. He longs for you to come to Him so that He can give you a peace and rest that only He can provide.

If you feel like you need extra strength today, come to Him. If you are restless with anxiety, come to Him. If you are facing loss, come to Him.

God wants you to enjoy the gift of “stillness”. “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him(Psalm 37:7). The definition of stillness is “silence, quiet, hush.” Some synonyms of stillness are “serenity, inactivity, peace, tranquility.” Step into the presence of the Lord in quietness. Don’t say a word. Play some soft music and listen for His voice. Wait for His peace to fill you. Shut out the distractions of this busy world. Ignore your phone. Those texts can wait.

We have become so accustomed to constant stimulation these days but our spirts long for rest, peace and time alone with our Saviour. Some people feel like if they slow down too much they may be vulnerable to tears and more emotion. And that may make them uncomfortable and even afraid to slow down and face their emotions. But as those tears fall and as God’s word sinks into your empty spirit a peace that surpasses all understanding comes over you and your spirit is immediately filled back up with God’s presence. God didn’t create us to be happy all of the time. He created us with a variety of emotions. Be sure to feel those emotions and let those tears fall and let His spirit restore your peace. Let Him hold you. Be still in His arms.

Do you want your children to come to you when they are sad and weary? Do you want them to cuddle up into your lap and find rest and comfort? Or do you want them to keep it from you and run away from it and shut down emotionally eventually leading to an explosion of emotions? Just as you want your children to come to you, Jesus desires that you would come to Him. He is your father. You are His child. He is gentle, kind, understanding and wants to hold you when you are hurt, sad, tired or anxious.

Colossians 1:11-We pray that you may be strengthened and invigorated with ALL power, according to His glory and might, to attain every kind of endurance and patience with joy. In God we are strengthened , invigorated and have endurance , patience and joy for each new day!

Come to Him today. He will give you rest, peace, comfort, joy, hope, security and He will equip you with everything you need for today and the days to come.
